It’s been 52 year since my parents took the family on vacation to the great Southwest, U.S.A. And, it seems I keep going back. This is an edited clip of an 8mm film my parents shot while on that trip. We took turns pointing the camera.
Grand Staircase
A presidential proclamation announced in December 2017 acknowledges the scientific and historic value of the Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument established by President Clinton in 1996, but it also announced that “it is in the public interest to modify the boundary of the monument to exclude from its designation and reservation approximately 861,974 acres of land” ... and to open up those areas to mining, geothermal leasing, etc.
Enjoy the view.
July 9, 2018: Toll booths
We drove from Bayeux to St.George’s-de-Didonne which is along the Atlantic coast. The motorway is a toll road ... we paid almost 40 Euro so that we could make good time.
Unlike past trips, we were able to use a credit card to pay. Before the U.S. credit cards had chips, we were pretty much a cash-and-carry vacationers as we stayed in small towns. A pain at the toll booth, while cars piled up behind you because I had to drop 20 Euro into a machine, one Euro at a time.
The European credit cards have had chips for many, many years.
